“This is our first time here, so my heart is beating a little bit faster.”

This was what vocalist Bobby ‘Blitz’ Ellsworth greeted us welcome with, and who could blame him and his heart for that? In front of him stood a massive crowd, all chanting the name Overkill over and over again.

Expectations were of course running high after such an entrance, and the band did what it could to live up to these. They all seemed very happy to be here, Ellsworth’s words didn’t seem like empty crowd-pleasing, and they were all actively using the stage in their performance. The only one not present all the time was actually Ellsworth, as he was seen leaving the stage every time he wasn’t actually singing...
Still they managed to get a nice sing-along going for their classic track, In Union We Stand, which was basically written for this kind of event. There was also a nice little mosh forming out in the crowd, and even though it never grew into something massive, it was still pretty darn wild, and thrived on the old-school thrash it was being served up so masterfully.
Overkill finished off with the classic Motörhead cover, Overkill, so no mayor surprises there, but it got the job done.

Overkill delivered a tight and solid show without leaving much of a mark among the rest of the bands of the festival, for me. Lunah (Lauridsen, our photographer) immediately gave it two thumbs up however, so as with everything else it was up to the eyes of the beholder...
