Suicidal Angels was the second band for us at the 2010 Brutal Assault festival, and I’m not going to lie; although I know that they know how to put a performance together, this was not what I was looking the most forward to during the festival.
Still, one might be surprised, and so I gave it a go anyway…

Even if I was not, then there were still a fair few people who were apparently really looking forward to the Greek thrash quartet; even though the band was ten minutes late in getting on stage, there were still loud cheers and shouts already during the intro of the concert.
The band kicked off with The Pestilence Of Saints, and after that the ground was paved for a showcase of old-school thrash metal, something which went down really well with the Czech audience.
Just as the last time I saw them (in Denmark, earlier this year), the band was very lively on stage, and this in turn inspired the crowd to rock out even harder, and the already started moshpit grew to a furious circle pit at one small word from vocalist/guitarist Nick.

The set was built up of fast-paced thrash songs all the way through, some more known by the audience than others, but there was a surprise up the sleeve of the band as they announced a completely new song from their upcoming album, called Final Dawn (although it sounded more like Nick said Face a new dawn, maybe it was renamed). The style of this was recognizable and fit well with the rest of the songs, and it was highly enjoyed by the assembled crowd.
The finale of the show, Apokathilosis, saw the crowd hit another gear and go completely amok the lightning-fast riffing, a good way to end their show for sure.

Suicidal Angles again didn’t turn out to be a big hit for me, and it was basically the same problem as the last time; even though they work the stage and crowd well, I still miss that magic click, that one thing that would set them above the average band and make them remembered. Who knows, maybe it will come to me one day, and I will regret ever having uttered these words, but for now Suicidal Angles is just another band, as far as I’m concerned.
