Lock Up
Brutal Assault - 2010
Text: Tobias Nilsson Photo: Lunah Lauridsen
At the time initially intended for Sepultura, we were now to see Lock Up, not quite as surprisingly as when we saw the Brazilians the day before. Still no real word had been given as to why they had changed places though…
Not that this would have had any effect on the show at hand however, and after a long instrumental intro played over the p.a., the band kicked of its show hard, fast and relentless, just as they had done at Wacken the week before.
Actually, the show felt exactly the same for me as the band was beating away at their instruments at speeds competing with those of military aircrafts. The one big difference was actually something which had nothing to do with the band, namely the surrounding. Watching this human killing machine on stage, I couldn’t help but thinking that Brutal Assault had to be the perfect place for these guys to play; the worn down army fortress setting the scene and all the camo-army-spikes-and-leather clad visitors the actors of this infernal play.
Just as the last time around, an enormous amount of songs were blasted out over the festival, but they didn’t mind taking short breaks between them once in a while here. In these, vocalist Tomas Lindberg had time for a dedication (Castrate The Wreckage to the old thrash-band Dark Angel), and more importantly, there was time for him to announce an upcoming 7” split with Brutal Truth [ed. note: changed to Misery Index], their first studio release since 2002’s Hate Breeds Suffering. I’m not in doubt for a second that this was pleasing news for the fans who were listening.
I on the other hand still had a hard time connecting with the band, it simply wasn’t me, and hence my grade for the concert can’t get very high. Luckily, we don’t give grades at this site; it’s up to you to figure that one out.
Setlist:
Slow Bleed Gorgon / Pleasures Pave Sewers
Feeding On The Opiate
Triple Six Suck Angels
Castrate The Wreckage
Violent Reprisal
Detestation
After Life In Purgatory
Slaughterous Ways
Retrogression
The Dreams Are Sacrificed
Horns Of Venus
High Tide In A Sea Of Blood
Submission
Delirium
The Jesus Virus
Storm Of Stress / Fear Of Napalm
Cascade Leviathan
