Headhunter

Wacken - 2008

With a sound that was far better than the one we had just experienced at the large Black Stage, Headhunter entered the Party Stage to many people's delight.
Well, many... There were a lot of people in the crowd, yes, but still not as many as I would have believed that the presence of Marcel 'Schmier' Schirmer (vocals/bass) of Destruction could pull out of the wood-works.
Nevertheless, it was a very enthusiastic band which met us this day, and as Schmier himself told us when we ran into him later backstage; the reunion of Headhunter is all about having fun and a chance for himself, Uwe 'Schmuddel' Hoffmann (guitar) and Jörg Michael (drums) to have a good time doing something they all enjoy. And they were definitely enjoying themselves on stage; that was very apparent.

There were, as I had expected, many shouts for Destruction, but Schmier put a definite end to it when he said; "No, there will not be any Destruction today, but maybe a bit of blues?" after which the band began playing around with some blues improvisation.
Later on, he did give in a little bit though, saying; "For those of you who like Destruction, maybe the next one will satisfy your thrash mood", and then they played the faster song Force Of Habit.
As a kind gesture to all of those who literally thirsted for more, the band threw a couple of beers out into the audience; a trick that definitely won them some extra points with the crowd.
