Marduk

Second supportband this evening was Unleashed. But when they entered the stage, I got the feeling that something was wrong, very wrong. And I was proven right, it turned out to be Marduk instead. Why? It was later explained to me that this was in fact a double headliner tour, where Marduk and Unleashed took turns in being the main act.

I suppose the common factor for this performance was the word 'fast'. They were quick to go on stage, their music was really fast, the talking in between songs was over in the blink of an eye, and when they were finished they were very quick to get off the stage again. Remarkably, this was at the same time one of the calmest performances I've ever seen. By this I mean the almost complete lack of movement seen in the band. It was as though they had decided their individual places beforehand, and made no effort to break out of their own space.
Another minus for me was the lack of variation in tempo. This show was moving like a freight train on speed, relentless and unstoppable. I know that some people like it best this way, tonight's crowd definitely loved it, but personally I prefer it a bit more mixed up.

So, all in all, not really something for me, but then again, Marduk has never really been my thing. Judging by the rest of the crowd though, this was an amazing show.
