Vreid

Loppen, Christiania - 2007

Vreid from Norway opened up for Marduk this cold Monday evening.
They started out with two intro's, where one was with spoken words, though I didn't really hear what was said. The other was a quite nice little violin melody.

I hadn't really heard their music before, only what I could hear on their myspace profile, which I had visited when I found out I was going to see them. Their style hit me as a rather primitive black metal, with lyrics in both English and Norwegian. A short way into the set they also began to show a somewhat more melodic side to their music, which I always find nice. Despite the fact that I normally don't like music this aggressive, I actually ended up liking Vreid's performance best of all.

The crowd was rather small to begin with, as it often is for the first band, but grew a bit as the show went on. Vreid did their best to make a connection, and the mood in Loppen was rather good. The most successful at connecting with the crowd was the guitarist, Ese, who seemed to have gathered his own little fanclub in front of him. He was also the one who gave the most energetic performance, although the rest of the band gave a good show as well.
