After the thrash provided by Drone it was time for some bare-knuckled hard-hitting no frills death metal from the heart of winter (Finland that is); something much more in line with the style of the night here at Hypocrisy’s Long Time, No Death… tour.
On stage we saw Tommi Virranta doing vocal sounds, while guitar duty was divided between Sami Jämsén and Jani Luttinen (this guy really need to buy himself a new pair of pants, preferably some which can close…), drums were punished by Seppo Tarvainen, and last but in way least the bass was beaten by Tapio Wilska (yes, this is the same Wilska who has previously handled the microphone in Finntroll).

Although their closer resemblance to the style of main act Hypocrisy, Survivors Zero seemed to have some difficulty in reaching the audience; even though the crowd had grown even more since the first band it was still only a few people in the front who were getting into the music. Strange I thought; this was nothing like the Germany I remember from earlier shows. Normally, more or less all bands would receive a lot of love, but tonight things didn’t seem to work at all…
On stage the band hammered away, but sadly the vocals were nearly inaudible in the first row where I was positioned, especially in the lower tones which Virranta seemed to prefer using.
The best response came after Survivors Zero played a cover of Germany’s own thrash-legends Kreator; People Of The Lie. This generated some appreciative shouts and applause after it was done.

As I felt it, this seemed a pretty standard show, and because of the minus in vocal-sound (the rest worked well enough) and the fact that this was not something I would listen to under normal circumstances it didn’t hit home with me. I did hear other voices complaining about a lack of group dynamics and a general lack of tightness in the music, but this could be accredited to the fact that it was the first night of the tour. The only feeling left was to see if they would do it better the next night in Berlin.
