Metalite
Mejeriet, Lund - 2024

Metalite was the chosen support band for Pain when they were out on their I Am tour, and as often with Pain’s support bands, they were not an outfit I had heard of before this.
They are, I have since found out, a Swedish heavy/power metal band which was established back in 2015, so just shy of a decade old now. They’ve got four full-length albums under their belt, with the latest one, Expedition One, having been released earlier this year - and now they were here to play.
“Hello all! It’s fantastically fun to be with you here in Lund!”
- Erica Ohlsson (vocals)
After a short spoken intro, the musicians came running onto the stage, and as soon as Erica Ohlsson took her position in the middle, two very tall sparklers shot up on either side of her - talk about a bombastic entrance!
The performance certainly kept this energy up through the entire show, where especially bassist Robert Majd was wildly active, but the entire band were good posers, both individually and together in pairs or groups - heck, Majd even went up to visit live drummer Joel Kollberg at one point! No reason to leave him alone, I guess.
“This is our first visit to Lund! (wooo!) Yeah, that’s what I thought!”
- Robert Majd (bass)
The audience wasn’t about to be left alone either. The party Metalite was having on stage was something they were determined to spread further. Ohlsson kept the one-sided conversation going a bit between songs, although they were, for good reason, moving quickly from track to track. Luckily, Majd was also active in getting the audience involved, demanding applause to follow the rhythm when the band got into Blazing Skies, and he didn’t wait till the end of the show to hand out plectres.
Sadly for the Metalite, the large crowd at Mejeriet seemed to only have one band on their radar this night, and it was not them. When being called to action, there was some response, but for the most part, this was a very still and laid back crowd.
For my own part, I felt the performance was nice, but ultimately my disinterest in the music kind of killed it for me. This was just not my thing, and maybe that’s what happened for the crowd in general as well. Pain has always been good at bringing support bands of varied style, but maybe this was just too far from the wheelhouse?
Setlist:
Disciples Of The Stars
Far From The Sanctuary
Blazing Skies
New Generation
Afterlife
Peacekeepers
We Bring You The Stars
