Mercenary

KB Hallen, Copenhagen - 2008

If nothing else, this evening was a good example of the diversity in the metal-scene today. Headliners Megadeth giving us a dose of good old trash, Volbeat showing us that rockabilly and metal really are compatible, and finally, warming for the other two, Mercenary dazzling us with their mixture of progressive and death.

As I've noticed before in KB Hallen, not many people met up early enough to see the support band, but the ones that had done so were definitely enthusiastic, and very loud. And who can blame them? Mercenary had planned a highly intelligent show, designed to push all the right buttons. The weight of the set was up-tempo, energetic songs, and you could tell the band, amazingly led by frontman Mikkel Sandager, was determined to make an impact.
Which they did. I have seen Mercenary a couple of times before, never really paying much attention, I must admit. Sadly. For what they left me with after this show was a definite want for more, and isn't that what live shows actually are all about?

The only negative commentaries I have about Mercenary's show are firstly about the sound; having the vocals set much too low wasn't a good idea, and secondly, I want more.
Other than that, there's only one thing to say; Two pairs of horns raised by this reporter!
