Entombed

Metalfest - 2011

In the middle of the night, Entombed got their time to shine as they were headlining the second stage at Metalfest.
For this opportunity they had constructed a very special set, consisting only of songs from their two first albums, Left Hand Path and Clandestine.

At this late hour, I must confess I was getting a bit tired. It had been a long day of travelling and music, and as the soundcheck dragged on a bit (Alex Hellid returned after finishing up to double-check his guitar), I could feel my eyelids getting heavier.
This was to be dispelled only a short time later though, as Entombed entered the stage about 15 minutes late and quickly filled the air with so much noise (not sure if all that time spent on soundchecking actually paid off, as it was all loud and noisy) it must have kept even the dead awake.
Quite surprisingly, after seeing L.G. Petrov around the place during the day with a beer constantly glued to his hand, the band showed no signs whatsoever of fatigue, and this inspired the rather large crowd which had gathered to see this spectacle to act crazy as well.
But, tired or not, it was still easy to that Petrov was in a state of good old death metal drunkenness as he at one point managed to drop his microphone. He was quick enough to save the situation however as he grabbed Nico Elgstrand’s mic until someone was kind enough to pick his own up for him.

Still, even with an energetic performance by the band, and a likewise happy crowd, I had a hard time shaking the tiredness off of me, so for that reason my memory of the show is a bit flawed. I remember them playing Sinners Bleed early on, and that both Evilyn and Left Hand Path made an appearance further into the show, but other than that the set is too blurry to retell here I’m afraid (lucky then, that Lunah got a shot of the setlist, ey?).
I did have a good time, but it would have helped a lot with some more energy (from my side). The band seemed happy though, and even when they had finished, dragging over as much as they had missed in the beginning, they seemed unwilling to make a quick exit. Even after the rest of the guys had left, Hellid still walked around in the photopit, shaking hands with and greeting fans. That’s just the way it should be done.
