Carpark North

Grøn Koncert, Valby - 2022

10 days after our first encounter, we were back to see Carpark North at the 2022 Grøn Koncert tour.
Last time had been on Amager for the first day of the tour; now it was in Valby for the last day.

"Valby, are you feeling delicious today?!"
- Lau Højen (vocals/guitar)

Carpark North opened the Grøn Scene once again, and once again they did it on a day with perfect weather for an open air show. In addition to this, it was a Sunday, so everyone was in a lazy good mood.
There were a lot of people waiting for the band, but we were far from packed together, even up front. The same beeping sound effect from last time introduced the show, and once again I was struck by how heavy their live sound was. I wish I knew what the opening track was called, but they never said, and I was unable to pick it up from the lyrics. (note: I’ve later found out it was More)

The band members showed some signs of it being the last day of the tour, but not as much as I had feared. They were still pretty mobile in their expression, just not as springy as I remembered them. The fact that it was another sunny and baking hot day, could of course have something to do with it as well.
Either way, they slowly warmed up to the show, and especially Højen and Søren Balsner did a lot to connect with the audience.

"A good trick to combat the heat is to drink beer. And then another beer. And one more beer. Then maybe some water. But don't forget to drink a lot of beer!"
- Højen (vocals/guitar)

At about the same speed, the crowd warmed up to the boys from Århus, and so in just a few songs, people were beginning to sing along, something that only grew as Højen performed Best Day by himself on stage - but as I mentioned, a great chorus of thousands stretching out in front of him.
The momentum kept growing, and by the end of it, we could safely ascertain that Carpark North had turned the final day of Grøn Koncert into one hell of a party. People were singing and jumping, and the band was right there with them. They even lowered the music for a bit in Save Me From Myself, in order to really let the audience participation fly.

I’m still not won over on the musical aspect of the band, but my god, they knew exactly how to handle a day like this on stage - hats off to that!
