Bullet
Metaldays - 2019

When we came wandering in halfway through the afternoon of the final day of Metaldays, it was one band we had our eyes on, and that band was Bullet!
It’d been just about two years since our last encounter with this Swedish hard rock outfit, and in the meantime, they had released a new studio album, Dust To Gold, and their brand new, first ever live album, simply called Live.
And if there’s one setting which fits this band like a hand in glove, it is the live setting! I have no idea how their Slovenian fanbase is, but judging by the nearly non existing crowd that was gathered in front of the main stage when they were about to enter, I figured it couldn’t be too big. Well, more space for the rest of us to party then, am I right?! Well, it was definitely party o’clock when Bullet hit the stage, and opened with the relatively new track Speed And Attack, from the aforementioned Dust To Gold album.
The band was on top straight off the bat, and while Dag ‘Hell’ Hofer grabbed the audience by the scruff of their necks, Hampus Klang and Alexander Lyrbo faced off on their knees in a lovely guitar duel. The two Gustavs, Hjortsjö (drums) and Hector (bass), took it a bit easier than the rest, but only just a little bit. I mean, the band was lit for the show, and wouldn’t let anything come in their way!
While the band was every bit as on top as we’d expected, there were some live steeples that were missing this fine day. One important thing was that their rolling home, the legendary Bus, had been left at home in Sweden for this trip! Now what was the source of the band’s power, I ask you?
Also missing were the many stage gimmicks that the band has implemented over the years - possibly they were left in the Bus?
Still, that wouldn’t stop Bullet from rocking the Tolmin valley hard, and so they did!
Little by little, the crowd grew, and while it never exactly became a large gathering, it was enough for a lively party after a while. Fists were raised, and the band garnered a good amount of cheering between songs, as well as a good “oh ah” sing along for Highway Love.
It was a bit odd to have a break in the middle of the set, with Uprising playing over the speakers, and the band leaving the stage, but they were soon back with Storm Of Blades, and the party could begin to build again.
All in all, this was a highly entertaining show, just as we had predicted, and a perfect way to start the final day. Beers, sun, and a good soundtrack - what more can you ask for?

Rogue Soldier
Riding High
Turn It Up Loud
Rolling Home
