Behemoth
Metaldays - 2018

Metaldays was ready to blow everyone away already on the first full opening day, and thus they had hired none other than the powerful Behemoth to headline the day on the main stage.
We’re usually pro-Behemoth, and so we didn’t mind at all that the band got such an honourable position. Positioning ourselves for the show, we could quickly see that just about everyone present at the festival was here with us. The pressure was far beyond anything we’d tried so far this year, and it promised well.
The show started late, about 20 minutes I’d estimate, but this only helped build anticipation in the gathered masses, and when the band finally took the stage, they did so to a magnificent pyro and smoke show.
They also did it with loads of energy to burn, and it was good to see how the whole gang was taking a highly active part in the performance - hell, even Inferno was visibly more into it than usual, and it takes something special to notice a drummer at a live show.
The rest of the gang made good use of the entire stage, as they walked around, stood posing against each other, or did some of the more intricate routines that have been built into the show over the years.
I noticed Orion taking a more prominent position in delivering vocals than I’m used to. He was primarily used for the very low-end growls, but was overall versatile and convincing in his delivery.
Orion wasn’t the only one sharing vocal duties with Nergal this evening though - a little past the halfway point in the concert, Behemoth was joined by Swedish singer Niklas Kvarforth. This was actually the first time I’ve seen him on a stage, or at all, and all I could think was that he didn’t live up to all the bloody rumours. Well, I also thought that for a self-proclaimed misanthrope, he sure was smiling a lot, and seemed genuinely happy to be among others, and in front of such a large audience.
While Kvarforth didn’t exactly tickle my fancy, I’ll have to say that the rest of the show was just as good as can be expected. The production value was out of this world! Did I mention that mind-baffling pyro show?
Behemoth knows how to consistently deliver high quality performances, and this night was no exception. They even pushed themselves a bit further than what they’ve done recently, and I liked it.
