Metalcamp news
Dear Metalcampers,
The news about the unfortunate break up of the legendary Celtic Frost and the cancellation of their performance at Metalcamp Festival brought nothing to be happy about. As if one cancellation has not been enough, Heaven Shall Burn had to cancel their performance, too. Can anything else happen to make our day even worse? Are there any good news at all? Of course, just check who will step in their place and anything else won't matter...
Carcass is one of those bands who changed our perception of extreme music genres forever. The brutality and surgical accuracy in their music, unique vocal skills and extreme lyrics made Carcass an instant hit back in the early 80ies and 90ies. Their debut Reek of Putrefaction was a fresh wind over the rotting graves. Extremity, not seen or heard before, was meant to unleash a ghastly legacy, which would upset those who thought that it couldn’t get any worse. The foundation of gore grind was set.
Symphonies of Sickness brought a new view on technical death metal and this album convinced masses to become faithful Carcass followers. With Necroticism Carcass proved they are still developing their musical skills and that they haven’t revealed their full potential yet. No one can surely say what consequences their Heartwork left on our hearts, but No Love towards this band was ever Lost. Swansong showed a new side of Carcass, influenced by traditional metal sounds yet still aggressive, melodic and grim at the same time. Despite this album alienated many of their fans, the news about their break up saddened us all. But the chance to see these technical surgeons playing live again in 2008 is something no death metal fan should afford to miss. After 89’s Symphonies of Sickness tour Carcass return to Slovenia and all these years of waiting and hoping for them to return on European stages - this makes Carcass one of the most special reunions you can experience this summer. Make sure you do not miss it!
The almighty Vikings Amon Amarth were more than happy to take the empty spot and join their forces with Metalcamp festival once again. If Odin is reading this news, there is surely a great party happening in Valhalla right now. The North's favourite Vikings will pillage the small city of Tolmin yet again. Their hidden harbour at Soca river will be ready to welcome their viking ships and same goes for Metalcamp crowd. The hunger for some raw Swedish death metal will be quenched when this Viking tribe takes over the Metalcamp main stage.
Raise your axes and join the victorious rite to celebrate the death metal invasion over Metalcamp 08!
