A Kid Hereafter In The Grinding Light
The Rock, Copenhagen - 2009

Two bands were supposed to support Napalm Death at The Rock this night; All Shall Perish from the US and A Kid Hereafter In The Grinding Light (from now on AKHITGL) from Denmark; however, since someone in All Shall Perish had fallen ill and cancelled, AKHITGL’s show had been pushed to fill the hole.
This meant there was more time for people to gather and get something to drink before the music started; still, the room was only about ⅓ filled when the crazy Danes made their appearance.
Even though the crowd had seemed a bit drowsy to begin with, a small (but wild) moshpit quickly began moving as soon as the music started.
AKHITGL appeared in their characteristic all-white clothes, except for drummer-boy Kid Handsome who sported a pair of white legs sticking out of his underwear, which was all he wore for the evening. Understandably so, as the climate was as warm and moist as a South American rain-forest…
AKHITGL delivered some devilishly well-performed entertainment with their insane music (supported by a weighty sound from The Rock’s sound-system), and an excited frontman in A Kid Hereafter (a.k.a. Frederik Thaae) who managed the crowd with expertise in the short breaks between the short songs.
I say short, as AKHITGL plays grindcore with the weight on punch and speed instead of lengthy tracks; some songs are no longer than a few seconds!
Thaae showed his worth not only as a musician, but also as a fan of the genre as he at several times said that what he was looking forward to the most this night was seeing Napalm Death perform, and at several times he also started up shouts where he would say Napalm and the audience would reply with Death.
He was actually also found in the moshpit for the Napalm Death concert later on…
I liked the AKHITGL show because their fast and heavy music was a good way to warm up the crowd, and at the same time their humour kept the show from going dull.
And of course, the fact that they were very lively on stage, and that it was clear to see how they were enjoying themselves helped a lot as well.
