Wacken - 2009

”Wacken, are you ready to be disciplined?!”
Thus shouted Vreid’s vocalist Sture Dingsøyr to the already rather large audience standing before him; however, it would seem people were still too tired to give a decent response. It was still early morning by festival standards, after all.

It didn’t look like the band had been up drinking all night though, as they gave it an arm and a leg as first band of the day on the Black Stage. The music was hammering out like a machine gun as they sent tracks like Svart and Speak Goddamnit flying over us. Even the fire was fired up (excuse my pun), and was spewing warmth from the stage, as if it was needed in the hot weather.

Even though Vreid were doing a very decent job, our stay with them was far too short for me to really get into the feeling of it, as we had to make haste for the next band while they were still playing. The only redeeming fact was that we were going to see them again in about a weeks’ time.
