Vader
Metalcamp - 2009

”Is this Metalcamp or what? So give me some fucking noise!”
- Piotr 'Peter' Wiwczarek (vocals/guitar)
This was shouted by main man Piotr Wiwczarek (better known as Peter), general of the Polish death-machine known as Vader, as he tried to liven up the still only midsized audience.
Even though Vader had been relocated from their 15:40 time, to the new and a little better 16:45, people still came off as being a bit morning-tired, except for some brutal headbanging in the front. The comment garnished some response however, and people lightened up a little.
Other than this, I felt that Peter was far less talkative between songs compared to other times I have seen Vader live. This could be a conscious decision, as they only had 45 minutes to play, and they wanted to get as many songs out there as possible. In any way, the music was delivered fast and hard as it always is with these speed-fiends, and even though Peter seemed to have serious problems with his monitors in the start, they were still tight as hell itself.
The audience did also seem to warm up more and more during the set, and shouts were beginning to be heard throughout the place and moshpits broke out; I even saw someone hoist a Polish flag in honour of the band.
After the show ‘ended’ with Wings, the band tried to hide behind the speaker rack on stage, before surprisingly re-entering to do an encore with This Is The War. This stunt fell a bit flat however, as everyone could still see them where they stood, and just waited the time of their return out. Next time they should bring more equipment on stage...
The energy was pretty good throughout, but this wasn’t the best Vader I have seen. I prefer them on a smaller, more direct stage, as this normally works to their advantage.
Setlist (incomplete):
Black To The Blind
Silent Empire
Epitaph
ShadowFear
Wings
This Is The War
