The Burning
Stengade 30, Copenhagen - 2008

After hanging out in Stengades cozy upstairs bar, we went down to the concert hall and were treated to yet another heavy-as-hell band from Aarhus. Recently, our ears have bled to both Illdisposed and Slow Death Factory also hailing from that fair city. And, to be honest, after experiencing their traffic system, I can understand why there are so many angry people originating from that place.
Warming up for Entombed, The Burning treated us to what I would describe as a brutal mix of hardcore/death metal.
There was quite a fair few people who had shown up to take the pounding which The Burning was more than happy to send our way. There was loads of energy pouring from the band, and still there was also time for Johnny Haven (vocals) to share some words of wisdom in between songs; like when he declared that we should buy as many shirts as possible, since they made just about enough money from the merchandise so that he could buy himself a hotdog on his way home.
Even though this isn't my favourite type of music, I still want to say that they made an excellent job with the performance. My only concern is that I'm not sure if their good spirit would be as well understood on a large international scene, as it was in this kind of club gig. I suppose we'll have to wait and see.
Setlist:
Underachievers
Warhorse
The Gospel
Storm The Walls
Last Living Hostage
Fire
Snakes Of Life
Kill The Swine
End Of All
Dotted Line
Weakling
