Testament

Wacken - 2009

As the sun shone high on yet another beautiful day at Wacken, I was getting ready to see Testament, and I was not alone!
Thousands upon thousands of other happily expectant people were standing there with me before the True Metal Stage, eyes fixed on the grand gathering of angels which made up the backdrop, the same picture as the cover of their latest album, The Formation Of Damnation.

Then came the band, and as they kicked the show off with The Preacher to everyone’s delight, it was easy to see how happy they themselves were to play here.
Already from the start there were wild moshpits around the grounds, and Testament followed up with more old classics like The New Order and Over The Wall, to everyone’s continued bliss.
This, in return, resulted in even more insane behaviour from the crowd; it finally looked like people had recovered from their hangovers and were ready to blow all their remaining energy before the festival’s end.

I had a great time watching Testament in the flesh, as it were, but sadly my time with them would prove much too short, as I had to leave only about halfway through the set to go to another concert.
This is just a fact you have to accept as you visit festivals, though luckily the next band was going to play on the Party Stage, so I could still hear Testament play as the others prepared, and they didn’t seem to let up in intensity one bit throughout the remainder of their show.
