Testament
Metalcamp - 2009

After Death Angel’s excellent gig the day before, the fight for the thrash throne was definitely on, and Testament proved that they were not ready to throw in the towel just yet.
Luckily, the rain stopped just in time for the show, which was kicked off by the 1988 song The Preacher.
Several classic tracks were actually served up; such as The New Order, Over The Wall and Into The Pit.
And into the pit people went!
I was impressed by the large amount of people which had come out to see Testament play; not that I doubt for a second their ability to pull a crowd.
And as I mentioned, into the pit they went; or at least a large section of them. It started already in the first song, and lasted almost throughout the entire concert.
One of the reasons it wasn’t active all the time, was not out of laziness from the visitors side, but because Chuck Billy called for a wall of death (this seems to be the new big thing in audience-participation; first simple headbanging, then the famous moshpit which evolved to the circle-pit, and now… wall of death), and that was exactly what he got. It was actually the most impressive wall I have seen so far; there were several metres of free space between the two sides, and the split went all the way down to the soundtower!
The crowd weren’t the only ones having a good time though; the band themselves were in an exceptionally good mood this day, and were constantly playing around on stage.
This joy was highly contagious, as seen on the fact that I jotted down the words “Übercool show” in my notebook, after which Lunah (Lauridsen, photo) stole it away from me to clarify things by writing “WE LOVE IT!!!”.
What more needs to be said, really?
Setlist (incomplete):
The Preacher
The New Order
Over The Wall
Into The Pit
Souls Of Black
Disciples Of The Watch
D.N.R. (Do Not Resuscitate)
3 Days In Darkness
The Formation Of Damnation
