Testament
Graspop Metal Meeting - 2008
Text: Tobias Nilsson Photo: Lunah Lauridsen
The third band we were to see at this year's Graspop festival was another American old school, but this time we're not talking death-metal like Obituary before them, but a dose of high-quality Bay Area thrash delivered by Testament.
The band gave a good performance, as always, making the most out of the mid-size stage of the Marquee I tent. Sadly they had a few important things going against them; first of all the sound was indescribably poor. Secondly, I would like to ask what happened to the lights. Considering how good they were for Moonspell, who had played the same stage before, it was strange to see how badly lit the stage was for Testament. The back light was a static red for almost the entire show, and there were little or no front lights, making the band appear as dark shadows for almost the entire show.
This did not make the crowd enjoy the show less in any way though, and neither did Chuck Billy by accidentally presenting The Preacher as being from The Legacy; he quickly corrected this to The New Order though.
Apart from that small hiccup, Chuck took his time to chat with the crowd between songs, all to heighten the level of an already good show.
All things considered, a good show. Not the best Testament I have seen, but thoroughly enjoyable.
Setlist (incomplete):
Into The Pit
Practise What You Preach
The Preacher
D.N.R. (Do Not Resuscitate)
Alone In The Dark
