Ten Years In Hell

Copenhell - 2019

With Copenhell celebrating its 10th festival here (and anywhere), it was time to do something really special - as in, something truly extraordinary!
This was, in part of course, done with an absolutely kick-ass line-up for the festival of the year, but the Copenhell crew had something more than that up its sleeve - it had Ten Years In Hell!

Who or what is Ten Years In Hell, you may rightly ask? Well, basically, it was a one time project (as far as I know) put together to celebrate the festival specifically, and rock and metal music in general. It was a conglomerate project, made up of several of Denmark’s most prominent bands and artists within said genres, playing cover versions of some of the most prominent hits from said genres.
It’ll take too long to list everyone, but to drop a few bands that were represented, we saw people from D-A-D, Dizzy Mizz Lizzy, Pretty Maids, Mercyful Fate, Volbeat, Hatesphere, Konkhra, Baest, and Helhorse - and the list goes on!

Not everyone was on stage at once, of course, but the crew changed somewhat with each new song being played.
The core was made up of the supergroup Omvendt Korstog, which also opened the show with their special Copenhell fanfare, Ulvens Ed, but through the show, every position was up for grabs, which made this an especially versatile and lively concert to watch, despite the extra breaks that were needed for logistics to work out.
By the way, if you remember the EP on which Ulvens Ed was released, you will also remember the B-side of it, the song Hårde Tider by Nyt Liv (aided by Rising and Hatesphere), and this special constellation also popped up during the concert of course, giving their contribution to the party.

Anyway, Ten Years In Hell took place on the Hades stage on the final day of the festival. It wasn’t a headlining gig of course, but played at about 7 PM, at a good break between afternoon and evening. Slightly overlapping with Municipal Waste on the Pandæmonium stage, Ten Years In Hell was still a well visited act. Rightly so, given the special circumstances around this performance. Basically, whatever strand of metal you enjoy, there would be something for you on stage at some point - a bit like the festival in general, but in a much more condensed and immediate state.
Not surprisingly, this was well received by the audience, which partied hard throughout the concert.

We certainly enjoyed ourselves as well, and while not everything was to our specific taste, we tip our hats to the entire thing for the effort and will poured into it. I’ve never seen something quite like this, and I don’t imagine I will again, not soon. We’ll see what Cophell has in store for us for its twentieth birthday…
