Sonata Arctica
Wacken - 2008
Text: Tobias Nilsson Photo: Lunah Lauridsen
In a cold blue light Sonata Arctica took the True Metal Stage in the palm of their hands. Before them were thousands of fans assembled, and for good reasons. This show saw Sonata Arctica back performing with the kind of class that we have come to expect from these competent Finns, not like last time we saw them which was at Graspop where I had been a little disappointed I'm sad to admit. Not this time though, they were really giving it their all; there was so much life on stage, and the songs were really tight.
The only problem the band seemed to suffer was, again, some sound issues. Especially so in Kingdom For A Heart, which completely lost Henrik Klingenberg's intricate keyboard work; and Caleb which was just completely messed up.
This, however, did nothing to dampen the spirits of those gathered before the stage. Highlights from the show were Don't Say A Word, which got everyone going and, interestingly enough, again Caleb which, despite the earlier mentioned sound problems, managed to get the entire crowd to swing along. Everyone got their rocks of for Sonata Arctica that day.
Setlist (incomplete):
In Black And White
Kingdom For A Heart
Replica
Caleb
Fullmoon
Black Sheep
Don't Say A Word
The Cage
