Soilwork
Metalcamp - 2008

Soilwork started out with a quite humorous spoken word intro for this show, which basically explained who they were, and where they came from. My only disagreement with it was the fact that they were called "the Swedish Vikings of mass-destruction", and in my opinion there isn't much Vikings over Soilwork.
The band was a lively bunch on stage, but as usual the price for best stage achievement went to their bass player, Ola Flink, who has to have more than one Duracell battery stuck up his rear.
There was nothing wrong with the action in the very big crowd who had gathered either; they had formed a large moshpit in front of the stage and were frequently sending crowd-surfers over the fence as well.
The mosh was something that didn't go unnoticed on stage either, as vocalist Björn 'Speed' Strid called out at the middle of the show: "That's good, but you need to make it even bigger!"
This literally made the ground shake, as the mosh grew from its already impressive size to go from the security fence in the front and almost all the way to the soundtower in the back!
It was also Björn who provided fuel for the fire between songs, and in a very good way as well. At least in the beginning. For the longer the show ran, the more drunk the angry vocalist became, and sadly it shone through far too much in the performance he gave. What had started out as inspiring speeches quickly turned to silly drunken ramblings from a man who at the end even seemed to have some trouble just standing up straight. Just as he had been the bridge between the band and the audience in the start, he was, ultimately, also the downfall of the show.
