I don’t know how many actually knew Skyline, the band who opened Wacken this year, I for sure did not, but I’m 100% positive that people knew the guest artists they had brought along!

The absolutely first song they played, very fittingly I might add, was none other than the 2009 Wacken Anthem – We Are The Metalheads, written by the metal-queen herself, Doro Pesch, who was also the first guest appearance for the band.
After this she followed up with another crowd-pleaser, All We Are, after which she left the stage.
The fun and games didn’t end with that though; Skyline performed a couple of more songs by themselves, still keeping only to old classics covered from bands like Dio, Judas Priest and the like, and surprise, surprise; the audience loved it, and sang along to every word!
Finally, at the end of a short but seriously entertaining set, the next guest act was introduced, and this time we moved from the metal-queen to a man who, if someone, could be crowned metal-king, at least of Germany, Mr. Udo Dirkschneider!
With Dirkschneider, Skyline played first the 2010 Wacken Hymne, written by Dirkschneider himself, and once again there was also time for a cover of the artist, and what song could be better picked than Balls To The Wall? The audience erupted into yet another great sing-along as the last song of the band played through the speakers of the Black Stage.

To be honest, I don’t know if Skyline is even a real band or not, based on the fact that they only played cover tracks through their whole set, and their backdrop said Metal Hammer, but either way, it was still the perfect way to open the festival! The only problem with the show was that they began playing 10 minutes before the announced time, which was crap, to say the least, as it wasn’t possible to reach the stage in time, and to be honest, there really was no reason why they couldn’t have waited…
