Serj Tankian
Train, Aarhus - 2008
Text: Tobias Nilsson Photo: Lunah Lauridsen
So, this was the first time we were at Train, and what a good concert to start of the acquaintance with. Train is a mid-size concert hall, which also rooms a restaurant next door. It's quite a nice and cozy place, and the best thing about it is definitely that it's the one place in Aarhus which we have been able to find without major problems. Anyway, on to the show...
After Engel, the crowd was well warmed up, and was shouting for Serj long before he was set to go on stage. When he and the FCC did come on, it was to the hypnotic tunes of Sounds Of War, which I thought was even better than last time I heard it. Of course, this time I knew what to expect, and that might have had something to do with it.
The set was pretty much the same as last time, with only a few changes, but the feel of the show was completely different. In my opinion, this was definitely the better of the two; Serj and the band clearly seemed to enjoy themselves more this time around. I think it was due to the fact that this was played in a smaller venue, which made it all the more intimate, more direct.
Anyway, the crowd was absolutely mad, raising deafening roars of joy between each song. For Baby, the singing of the crowd almost drowned out the band, that's how loud it got. To get even, the band ended the song with some sort of a jazzy jam-session, where Serj went berserk on all his little gadgets and effect-tools.
Other favorites for the crowd were Sky Is Over, which sent the whole place into a jumping frenzy, and The Unthinking Majority just saw everyone go amok in whatever way they could.
Finally, Serj and the FCC chose to bid us farewell with two cover tracks. First up was Girl by Beatles and secondly Dead Kennedys' Holiday In Cambodia, which they had also played while visiting Copenhagen.
All in all, a great evening and a great show with only one big surprise; why was Money, as the only song from the album, not played?

Sounds Of War
Empty Walls
Feed Us
Lie Lie Lie
Saving Us
Baby
Sky Is Over
Praise The Lord And Pass The Ammunition
Charades
