Rotting Christ
Wacken - 2010
Text: Tobias Nilsson Photo: Lunah Lauridsen
My initial surprise here was the extremely low attendance at this concert, the place was, well not nearly empty, but people were few and far between. Could people really be choosing Immortal over this?
No, it could not be, they must have been scared away by Wacken’s choice of stage. Really, what the heck is a quality act like Rotting Christ doing on the W.E.T. Stage???
Thankfully the low attendance and rotten (pun intended) choice of stage did nothing to dampen the bands spirit though, and these Greek masters of the dark arts were letting it all loose from their place on the stage. A bit loud maybe (the speakers couldn’t really deal with it), but who’s complaining? There was a fantastic groove, and all around people were jumping and headbanging like there was no tomorrow. I am glad the band got the feedback they deserved.
Well, what was good and what was bad then?
To begin with the positive side; here we have everything the band did. As my notes so correctly says; ”They know exactly what they’re doing, and they do it oh so well.” Contrary to Immortal, whom I had just witnessed moments earlier, I have absolutely nothing to complain about here.
The negative side then? Well, I have mentioned the placing already, so the only thing left is the stage time. 30 minutes? And on the W.E.T. Stage? Someone should be fired for this…
