Napalm Death

Wacken - 2009

Since Napalm Death had been moved from their original slot on the Saturday to this Friday morning, we only had time to see about half of their show.
This part was played so effectively however, that we almost heard enough songs to fill an entire show (which it would have done it been any other band); and impressively, ‘Barney’ Greenway still had time for some short but fiery speeches in which he gave us his view of the world around us; a rather bleak one if you ask me.

Since it was still early, and there most certainly had been drinking to some extent the day before, this ended up being the calmest Napalm Death crowd I had witnessed all summer; albeit, it was at the same time the largest one. Arms were raised of course, and several heads of long hair swung around as well, but I didn’t even see the familiar moshpit being performed; and I would say that that is a minimum requirement for a show with these British gents.

As I pointed out in the start, we got to see several Napalm Death classics even though we arrived late, and some of the more memorable ones were It’s A M.A.N.S World!, On The Brink Of Extinction, Scum (which for some reason held the Am I Evil riff in the middle of it), Deceiver and of course their well-known You Suffer.
As the last nail in the coffin, as it were, Napalm Death played their version of the old Dead Kennedys’ song Nazi Punks Fuck Off. I’m sorry that I cannot offer a more precise setlist, but as I said, we only saw part of this invigorating show, where the boys in the band mangled away in their familiar manner.
