Napalm Death
Metalcamp - 2009

As this was the third time I saw the British gentlemen of Napalm Death in about 1½ weeks’ time, I can’t really say that the experience brought any big surprises for me.
Still, I did wonder why the audience number was still so low, so far into the day. Most probably, there were a large number of people who had bought weekend tickets, and as Napalm Death were playing on the Monday, that would explain the, in comparison to the earlier days, low attendance.
Not that the boys from Birmingham let this faze them in any way; they were still brimming with the same amount of energy as an atomic bomb! And even though the numbers were missing, the energy of those who had shown up was not. This was by far the one of the liveliest audience I had seen all day, and the moshing was truly intense, as it should be.
There was actually a small renewal of the show as well, as Frédéric Leclercq (DragonForce) came on stage and gave a short shout. The episode was over so quickly however, that if you blinked, you would have missed it (in fact, I did miss it; Lunah told me about it afterwards…).
Even though I could say it was just the same old thing, this wouldn’t be the complete truth of the matter.
Yes, the set was the same, and in fact, so was the performance; what made this concert stand out compared to the others I had seen (and it did), was the atmosphere. It is hard to put a finger on exactly what was different, it just felt better somehow.
Thumbs up for this concert, guys.
