Copenhell - 2025

For our third band of Copenhell, we were moving from female fronted to all female in the guise of Canadian metal quartet Kittie. Admittedly, I listened to Kittie back in the day when they broke through, but haven’t kept up with their doings since then.
Still, I was curious to see what they were all about nowadays.

Kittie played the Pandæmonium stage, and from the start they had gathered a very big crowd. And why not? It didn’t take more than for the show to open before the band proved its strength on a stage! Guitarist Tara McLeod was all over the place, jumping, getting down on her knees, dancing - a real spitfire!, whereas bassist Ivana ‘Ivy’ Jenkins gave a slightly less mobile delivery but kicked it up several notches with her headbanging. This is not to say that the Lander sisters weren’t good on the stage as well, they were just more tied in place for good reasons. Whenever Morgan could break free, she often did though and joined McLeod in rocking out.

Something I wasn’t prepared for, was how Kittie’s sound had developed over the years. Based on the material they brought along here, they’ve clearly taken a turn for the heavier and more aggressive, compared to their nu metal roots, and I can’t say I mind it one bit. The live sound complimented this heavier turn perfectly and helped underline the energy of the band even further.
This was in turn appreciated by the fans - whether they were long time fans, or like me, just curious, they cheered the band along in one strong voice, and there was definitely action on the ground enough to kick the dust up as well.

My only regret is that scheduling forced us to leave Kittie’s show early, where thinking back on it, it would have been better to stick around and watch them till the end. This was a good way to be reacquainted with the band after all these years, and I hope they’ll come back through one of these days.
