Kataklysm
Metalcamp - 2009

The extreme death metal band Kataklysm from Canada hit the Main Stage after sundown before an impressive audience and at once several moshpits broke out around the festivalground.
“Everything is possible at a Kataklysm show, we even stopped the rain!”
- Maurizio Iacono (vocals)
Well put by Mr. Maurizio Iacono, but there seemed to be something he hadn’t quite grasped; the rain had actually stopped moments after the Death Angel gig before them, and then started to drip again as Kataklysm took the stage. Not that it mattered to the gathered audience though, as they gave a massive response to the concert.
For me, it all fell flat though. First of all, I’m not at all into this genre, and on top of that I found the performance to be nothing above the ordinary, and to tell the truth, quite dull. Basically, it was too repetitive, nothing exciting or surprising at all happened during their entire show.
The only positive thing I can think of is that Kataklysm was the first band I saw which had brought a backdrop in a fitting size (the earlier ones had felt stamp-sized hanging on the large back-wall of the Main Stage).
Other than that, this was certainly an experience I could have done without.
