Who cares about the rain, when all the stage is in flames?
Once again, In Flames put on a great gig, filled with power and intensity. And fire. Lots of fire.
I think this show probably had the biggest and most impressive pyro show of all the concerts we saw on this trip, just as it should be with this band. Not that they need all the effects, the band can definitely stand on their own two feet, but the addition is still welcome, and adds to the overall feeling of a complete show, well planned and delivered.
The crowd was wild, just the way it should be as well, and were jumping along to the music like crazy. Nobody was bothered by or even cared about the wet weather, the hot show was keeping us all warm.
A technical difficulty appeared in Delight In Angers, where the entire p.a. blew up! At least, all the power went out, and there was a break in the set as the stage crew were working hard to fix the problem. Of course, as soon as they got it back on, Anders (Fridén, vocals) was back to his normal kidding around, and the band kept blowing our minds with one great song after the other.
This time around there was no speech about tents or warm beer; instead Take This Life was presented as "The best boyband song ever", and for the end of the show with My Sweet Shadow I believe the band had borrowed some of Kiss' equipment from Graspop, as they brought out the two big confetti cannons, and the sky was light with fireworks of different shapes and colours.
I did not bother to write setlist notes down this time, as it sounded very much the same as the one they had played at Graspop only a few days before, and I wanted to keep my paper out of the rain as much as possible. A small and welcome addition came with Ordinary Story though, which is a real live classic.
