Illdisposed

The Rock, Copenhagen - 2008

After we had been well warmed up by Palt, it was time for the main act of the evening; Danish death metal titans Illdisposed.
They started their show off with a musical intro very reminiscent of the works of Tiamat, which in its slow melancholy lay very far from the brutality Illdisposed would unleash upon us shortly after.

Actually, some of the brutality lacked in the start of the set, as Bo Summers mic didn't work for the whole first song. The big man sent a look over at Lars Mayland, who is normally a very competent sound engineer, which sent him into hiding behind the mixing table.
Bo was, however, quickly provided with a new microphone, and he promptly threw the old one out into the audience. Throughout the show, small remarks kept falling Mayland's way though, among others an accusation about him playing in Konkhra (to fully understand this, you need to have a close knowledge of the Danish metal scene from the 90ies, where both bands had their moment of greatness).
All comments were placed with a big smile on Bo's lips though, and everybody in the band seemed to be enthusiastic (=read drunk).
Another out-of-place remark was when Bo, between two song, several times shouted "Fru Fernando Møge er død!" (Mrs. Fernando Møge is dead) which was taken from Matador, possibly the biggest series in Danish television history. How it ended up in a death metal concert I do not know.

"The kings are back in Copenhagen!"
And before them there had gathered a massive crowd of loyal followers, all ready to wreak havoc at the slightest command from their leaders up on stage.
But the leaders were not alone this evening; at one point Johnny Haven, vocalist of The Burning, was invited to the stage to put down some guest vocals for Throw Your Bolts. Later, when he was drunk enough, Illdisposed's personal rampensau (I don't know his name, but I've seen him on stage for other Illdisposed shows as well) also joined in the fun, having only watched the show from the side of the stage up till that point.

Illdisposed knows how to deliver a compelling show, and this night at The Rock was no exception. The music was heavy, the concert was entertaining, and I do believe everyone went home well pleased with what they had seen and heard.
