Hollenthon

The Rock, Copenhagen - 2008

Third band of the evening were Hollenthon from Vienna. Before them Gwydion and Alestorm had played, and after we would feast upon Týr and Svartsot.
Hollenthon was the most evil sounding band of the evening, and the only one where I could not hear any real folkish influences. Then again, they have been called all from melodic deathmetal to symphonic blackmetal, so I suppose the only thing in common with the rest of tonight's bands was the record-label, Napalm Records.

Also the crowd seemed to notice the difference in style, and they seemed to be less inclined to party with these guys from Austria than they had been with the other bands. Now, don't get me wrong, there was still plenty of action in front of the stage, just not to the same extent that I had seen before.
As a contrast, Hollenthon was clearly the liveliest of the bands yet to enter The Rock for this show. It was evident that they had not been slacking off in the 7 years that has passed between their latest and their new album.

Hollenthon had a pretty good sound going, with a lot of pre-recorded parts blended well in with the live parts. For instance, there was no keyboards player (from what I heard, I don't think the band even incorporates one) but there were surely played a lot of effects that enhanced their music throughout their set. Also, some clean vocal parts for Son Of Perdition were, shall we say, an out of body experience. Still, as I said, it was well-mixed and The Rock can be proud of their new speaker system. Here I would also like to put in that the lights were put to good use; an all together well-produced show.
Another song played was Ars Moriendi, but for the rest of them I will have to pass on the titles since I don't know them and they didn't introduce them all at the show.

This was my least favourite act of the night, but this shall only be written down to the fact that I'm not a big fan of the style. The show lacked nothing, and Lunah (our everything but writer), who is a bigger connoisseur of the darker sides of metal thoroughly enjoyed it.
