Graspop Metal Meeting - 2008
Text: Tobias Nilsson Photo: Lunah Lauridsen
Since both Lunah and I had enjoyed Forbidden's show at The Rock in Copenhagen very much, we both thought that seeing them again here at Graspop would be a great way to start the day.
And what a great idea this turned out to be. Their show here was at least, if not more, entertaining than the one we had seen before. Again, the band gave an intense performance and it was good to see that they had no problems handling the big Main stage.
The grounds were also pretty well-filled considering the early play-time the band had been given, and I had seen quite a few people in Forbidden shirts both before and after the show, so I do believe that Belgium was as happy to welcome the old Bay Area thrashers as we had been earlier in Denmark.
"This is how I'm feeling right now, this is Through Eyes Of Glass!" shouted Russ Anderson. This was followed by a long, silent pause while everyone was tuning their instruments and taking something to drink. Finally, after some time had passed Craig Locicero (guitar) went up to the mic and said "No, no, no. NOW it's Through Eyes Of Glass."
Apart from this episode though, Russ kept it very tight and fun between the songs. For instance, at one point he started to count all the Kiss shirts in the audience, he then told us about what a big Kiss fan he had been when he was younger, always drawing Gene Simmons in his school books. He also let us in on a little secret desire of his; he really wanted to try on one of said bass players' boots, just one...
At the end of the show, the moon decided to shine down on us in the bright sunlight. That is, someone pulled down Mark Hernandez's (drums) shorts, so he did the bowing with bare cheeks.
Setlist (incomplete):
March Into Fire
Forbidden Evil
Off The Edge
Twisted Into Form
Follow Me
Through Eyes Of Glass
Chalice Of Blood
