Equilibrium
Wacken - 2010

German pagan metallers Equilibrium marked our first return to the Wackinger Stage since Svartsot, and again my thoughts and wishes went out to whomever booked this stage to reconsider their choice in the future...
Honestly, the small area in front of the stage, or, actually the entire medieval village was more than jam-packed already half an hour before the band was to go on, and it made it damn near impossible to get up and see anything!
This combined with the very low stage made for one of the more difficult shows to see at Wacken.
On the other hand, Equilibrium made sure that the atmosphere was on a total max throughout the show, and there was a constant stream of crowd-surfers passing by overhead, as the more down to earth fans (pun intended) were busying themselves with singing/shouting along to the music and jumping and moshing as best they could. Especially Blut Im Auge saw a lot of jumping action going on.
Actually, the sheer crowd-pressure caused a stop in the concert between two songs, where the head of security had to kindly ask the audience to calm down a bit, and I can totally understand why; this was lethal, literally!
This was my second visit to Equilibrium-land, the first had been at another festival only a few weeks earlier, and even though I was not at all familiar with either the band or their music, I must confess that it was quite impossible not to get carried away by the atmosphere and party they were creating on the stage, and so professionally sending out over the edge and onto the expectant fans.
So it was not a happy decision we made as we left before the end, but we felt it was a necessary one, if we were not to be stuck in line for the rest of the day. Hopefully, we’ll see them soon again somewhere, and make amends for our premature departure...
