Equilibrium
Metalcamp - 2010

The last band of the night for us was the German pagan metallers Equilibrium.
To my immediate dismay, they were among the horde of bands which mix folk with black metal, and put almost all the emphasis on the black part. Savo, an Italian friend who knows them better than me, felt that my opinion would probably change if they just turned up all the background sounds a bit…
Be that as it may, for now I will write about what I saw and heard, not what it could have been.
In the dark of the night there was still a massive crowd in front of the Main Stage here at Metalcamp, and even though it was getting rather late, people were still filled with enough energy both to raise their arms at any given time, and impressively I saw a lot of crowd-surfers float by as the music thundered through the speakers. Equilibrium even managed to create a late night wall of death, which speaks loads of the vitality they were pumping into the crowd with their fast rhythms.
The band, which has so recently as this spring been restructured with a new singer, Robert ‘Robse’ Dahn (also in Vrankenvorde), and drummer, Tuval ‘Hati’ Refaeli (also in Viscera Trail), showed us that the line-up was ready and willing to kick some metal ass, and they chose to do so by giving a highly energetic and vital show. Especially Robse took control of the crowd, and was at several times climbing out onto the speakers in front of the stage to get closer to the fans.
With the live-sound given to the band, they were a bit too black and not enough catchy for my taste, but I can’t deny the impact they had on the crowd, and the show overall was quite enjoyable.
