Entombed

Vega, Copenhagen - 2009

On this, the second day for us on the tour with Swedish death’n’roll legends Entombed and their fellow Swedes in the death’n’viking act Amon Amarth, the former struck me as much more alive and kicking than what had been the case the day before.

Once more a good audience had managed to gather already as they took the stage, but the place was far from filled. This could of course have something to do with the fact that they had initially been placed in the smaller of the two halls in Vega, but after promising ticket sales they had been moved to the larger venue instead.
Now, even though the band was showing themselves from their most positive side, the Danish audience didn’t really seem to know what exactly they were dealing with here, and apart from a couple of raised hands in the middle, nothing much was done to show the Swedes the appreciation they deserved.
Still, in the first song of the night, Crawl, singer L.G. Petrov managed to get a pretty good Hey shouting started although as it wasn’t maintained it soon died of again. Not even when Entombed raised a big cheer in honour of Mike Alexander from Evile (the band which had been on the tour as well, until their bassist tragically died), did the crowd lift much more than an eyebrow in response.

Why this happened I cannot give a satisfactory explanation for; the band really fought a brave battle, where the borrowed bassist Victor Brandt once again took the prize for wildest helicopter neck of the night.
But it wasn’t just him this time, from all over the stage there emitted a very intense atmosphere, and I at least felt unable to control the urge to bang along to Entombed’s groovy riffs and deafening heaviness.

All things counted for, Entombed delivered a weighty smack in the jaw of a concert, and I just hope they choose to forget about the nights’ lazy audience, and instead remember when they visited us last year, where the party really was something to be proud of…
