Entombed
Train, Aarhus - 2009

There were actually supposed to be two bands warming up for Amon Amarth this night, but with the tragic passing of their bassist Mike Alexander, UK band Evile had to give up their spot on the bill, and Swedish death metal legends Entombed were left alone taking care of business.
When Entombed took the stage, they were standing in front of a midsized crowd who were taking the meeting rather calmly. The crowd grew considerably in size throughout the show, but they never grew really wild; only the midsection of the audience rocked along in a manner befitting this type of music.
The band themselves, although in a good mood, seemed pretty tired as well in the start of the show, so I can’t say much about the audiences initial reaction (or lack thereof), but in contrast to the aforementioned crowd the band grew in intensity throughout, and ended up giving a quite satisfactory gig, without reaching any new ground if you ask me. Their stand-in bassist, Victor Brandt (Dominion), was the one who really kicked the proverbial butt on stage, but leadsinger Lars Göran ‘L.G.’ Petrov was not far behind.
A lot of the material was stuff I’m not all too familiar with, and the sound occasionally made it hard to follow (this should of course be taken into account for the overall satisfaction), but there were also several killer-riff classics which really lifted the show for this reporter. Songs such as Wolverine Blues, Damn Deal Done and Night Of The Vampire were clear-cut favourites of mine. The only thing really missing to make it a classic setlist was Hollowman if you ask me.
All things considered, I enjoyed Entombed’s gig, and although they didn’t set the hall ablaze, they still made us feel warm and welcome.
Setlist:
Crawl
Demon
Wolverine Blues
Serpent Saints
I For An Eye
Supposed To Rot
When In Sodom
Like This With The Devil
Revel In Flesh
Eyemaster
Stranger Aeons
Damn Deal Done
Out Of Hand
Night Of The Vampire (Roky Erickson cover)
Left Hand Path
