Metaltown - 2009

DragonForce was the first band for us to see on the second day of Metaltown where they played the Black Stage.

As we were a few bands into the day already, most of the crowd was already settled in, and even though the amount of people came nowhere near the number they had had the day before, it was still an impressive audience standing around to see what the Brits would bring to the table.
Musically, no surprises were found, which wasn’t a big surprise in itself; however, the band excelled in vitality on this warm day, even more so than usual.
Vadim Pruzhanov was wilder than ever before, and considering the way he jumped, bent and moved around it was a wonder he didn’t fall of the stage!
Someone did fall, though…
As Sam Totman was making his way across the stage, backwards of course, he accidentally bumped into one of the heightened stage parts, causing him to fall flat on his arse. Huge cheers erupted from the audience, and he didn’t walk free from a comment from band-mate ZP Theart either…

As there really wasn’t all that much space left on the stage with all the guitarists and keyboard players thrashing around, Theart decided to hop down into the photopit to get a closer connection with the fans, and they loved him for it.
One other thing which also attracted the audiences’ attention occurred in the last song, as two girls in plastic nurse uniforms entered the stage with trays of beers for the bandmembers, and then finishing up by flashing their breasts to the audience before taking their leave once more.
The last song was (as if anyone didn’t know already) Through The Fire And Flames from the Inhuman Rampage album. Today, this was introduced by Theart as the song which made the Guitar Hero game famous, although in my humble opinion, he had that idea all backwards…

DragonForce was everything I had expected; too much guitar-wanking and an incredibly lively show.
As I said about Trivium earlier, DragonForce is definitely also a band best experienced live; although I must confess that even though they had a few new tricks up their sleeve today, I am beginning to find it all a bit repetitive.
