Destruction

Metalcamp - 2009

I was certainly surprised to see that the audience hadn’t filled up more than it had when it was time for the German thrash legends Destruction to wreak havoc on the Main Stage of Metalcamp.

“Are you fucking ready for some fucking thrash?!” main man Marcel ‘Schmier’ Schirmer shouted, and even though we were few in number, the wildness of the audience was unmistakable! The moshpit began at the very same moment as the music did, and it kept on going right till the very end of the show.
Of course, we were only few in numbers at the beginning of the concert; the uncompromising massacre Schmier, Mike Sifringer and Marc Reign unleashed over paradise quickly attracted more headbanging hungry followers.

Schmier showed himself in the best of moods, and also as a seasoned frontman, as he entertained the audience as much between songs as he, together with his compatriots, did during them.
At one time he was reminiscing about Destructions last visit to Metalcamp;”…5 years ago, where it rained like hell, but this time we’ve got some sun…”, at other times he remembered even further back;”…for the oldschool fans who saw Destruction in Ljubljana in 19… 88 or something…”. I was impressed that he could recall a show over twenty years earlier, but judging by the reaction he met, he wasn’t the only one.
The dedicated song was Life Without Sense, but this wasn’t the only dedication handed out during this concert. Later on Thrash Till Death was dedicated “…for the moshpit people…”, and they were glad to receive it, clearly visible on the extra vitality added to their furious rampage.

Destruction came, saw and conquered.
This was a show delivered by a band who clearly enjoy doing what they do, and know how to convey it to their fans. Highly enjoyable.
