Cannibal Corpse

Metaldays - 2015

After taking a tour of a few bands that were brand new, to our viewing experience at least, we ended the second day of Metaldays in very familiar territory – cannibal territory!

“Are you alive?! Or are you dead?! Or a little bit of both?”
- George ‘Corpsegrinder’ Fisher (vocals)

With cannibal Corpse, we were once again back at the main stage as well, which we hadn’t visited since Black Label Society this day. In front of it, there was a huge crowd amassed and waiting, larger by far than the one we had seen for that other band.
When the band entered, it was not surprisingly to equally huge amounts of appreciative shouts from said crowd, and then, without a word, Cannibal Corpse slowly and systematically began grinding our flesh and bones into dust – Scourge Of Iron opened the ballet, and one song after the other was then pounded out without mercy or remorse.
This of course meant that good old Corpsegrinder got less time than usual to speak his dry wit too us, which was a shame in my mind, but the pit seemed to appreciate the constant onslaught of music more. Even so, the show felt standardized and even though the music was pounding in the best of ways, it also felt a bit uninspired.

“Fucking Deadpool! Deadpool, Carnage, and fucking Captain America! Weeeeheehee!”
- Corpsegrinder (vocals)

If the band failed to truly impress, the crowd was another story. Already from the beginning, a large moshpit was ripping it up in the middle of the crowd, and many crowd surfers were constantly sailing by, as varied as you could wish for (just read the statement above).
Sure, it was late by now, and Corpsegrinder did threaten to come down and wake us up with the end of his boot if we didn’t wake up, but honestly, Metaldays was far more awake than the band! It was even the crowd that gave a shout out for a wall of death, and the band had to comply. Which they of course gladly did. First in Addicted To Vaginal Skin, and then, not surprisingly, to the band’s super hit, Hammer Smashed Face, which also saw an impressive circle pit thrash around the place.
So, all in all, it was good to see that Metaldays had the strength to deliver a powerhouse crowd performance, even though Cannibal Corpse played an another day at the office kind of gig.
