Bullet

Sweden Rock Festival - 2009

Another new Swedish sensation which rocked our world from the Zeppelin Stage on the Thursday was Bullet, whom we had heard of for the first time not too long ago as they were supporting Hammerfall on their tour a few months back.
But unlike H.E.A.T before them, Bullet managed not only to live up to my expectations, but surpassed them as well!
Where other retro bands can feel fake and sometimes even laughable in their efforts, Bullet shows an authenticity which is nothing short of impressive. Again, the comparison between ‘Hell’ Hofer and Udo Dirkschneider is close at hand, and the likeness between Bullets bassist Adam Hector and a certain bassist from Helloween (Markus Groβkopf) is almost uncanny.

“We have at singular times had a larger audience, but never a better one!”
- Dan 'Hell' Hofer (vocals)

This Hofer exclaimed, and there might be some truth behind his words. I don’t know about a larger audience as they had a good following here at the festival, But the crowd was definitely enthusiastic enough to put other crowds to shame.
And we had a lot to be excited about, as Bullet put on a stellar performance for us.
Or let me put it this way; to see Bullets concert we had to leave a Twisted Sister press conference backstage, and we had to cut Bullets show short to be in time for the Hammerfall concert. The first we did with pleasure; the second was out of pure duty!

“We have a love song, and it’s soft and good, and it’s about the love for leather!”
- Hofer (vocals)

Apart from the songs, which I should get better acquainted with, Bullet performed guitar solo where both Hampus Klang and Erik Almström got to show off their skills as upcoming metal legends. Maybe we should introduce the term guitar duet instead, as this was much more fitting.
Sadly, I still lack to hear a single album from these Swedes so a complete setlist is impossible for me to give, but some titles that stuck with me were Leather Love (to which the quotation was meant, go figure), Turn It Up Loud (which was introduced with pride as their first single) and City Of Sins (ok, this wasn’t introduced, but as far as I can tell it is the only instrumental song so far).

Bullet was definitely one of the highlights of the festival.
