Belphegor
Metaldays - 2018

Darkness had truly descended, and night had come as far as it possibly could in terms of music - it was time for the final band of the day.
And that band was Belphegor…
A dark, atmospheric intro music played while the stage was being set up. Luckily, the music was long, because the stage got a lot of window dressing! Large, inverted crosses, various skulls, and even spines of different animals was what greeted us - a perfect setting for this brutally blackened death metal band in other words. When the stage was done being decorated, another intro started, and then it was finally time for the band to show up.
Like the stage, the musicians were also dressed to kill, main, and do other perverted stuff to us - but music came first! Sanctus Diaboli Cinfidimus opened the night like a dark prayer, and from the very start, we could see that the band was not about to take any prisoners. Especially Serpenth (bass) stood out with an impressively energetic performance, making good use of the entire stage, and headbanging like a madman whereever he went. Overall, the band had a strong presence though, and helped keep the audience alive for one last gig.
And alive it was. The audience that is. It would seem that even after both Soulfly and Kataklysm’s impressively draining shows, there was still something to be squeezed out of the Metaldays visitors. A lot of people had shown up despite the late hour, and they greeted the band with raised horns and raised voices. Soon after the music commenced, this escalated to a furious moshpit that showed no signs of fatigue.
Personally, I wasn’t as well off however, and had to call it quits before the band was done. From what I saw, Belphegor delivered just the type of gig one would expect from them, and they did it well. It’s not exactly me, but that’s just my personal taste acting up.
Setlist (incomplete):
Sanctus Diaboli Confidimus
Totenkult - Exegesis Of Deterioration
The Devil’s Son
Belphegor - Hell’s Ambassador
