Metalcamp - 2008

Interview:
Q: With the fame of Apocalyptica, and all the shows and albums you've done, was this something you had imagined in the beginning of your career?
A: (Eicca Toppinen) Actually, we had never imagined that Apocalyptica would be anything more than a single album project. We just played for fun, and didn't really have any expectations at all.
We feel it has all gone very fast, and there have come a lot of new elements to the band, but we hope to be able to keep evolving in the future. We really can't see where this might end up.
If it wasn't for Apocalyptica, it is very possible that we would not even be doing music right now.
Q: How and when did you begin to write your own music?
A: (Eicca) The idea started after we had done a quite free interpretation of The Little Drummer Boy, and the first song I wrote completely was Harmageddon. Now we feel that the material we do ourselves is much more interesting compared to doing covers, since we can be free to explore and try out things which we couldn't have done while just playing cover tracks. Basically, we just like writing our own songs, and wish to do this more and more.
(Perttu Kivilaakso) Actually, I wrote my first song back in my teens, and it was called The Girl I Love. Cool, huh?
Concert:
Let me just start by saying that this was, in my humble opinion, the best concert I've seen all summer!
The band were absolutely super, they were really on top for this show. They even had the weather with them; for once it wasn't raining cats and dogs.
A lot of people had banded together to see this spectacular extravaganza of a concert, and to really get the party started, Apocalyptica started the set of with an old sing-a-long classic; Refuse/Resist. What an awesome song to begin with! And from here on out, it was just one classic song performed after the other.
Everyone there were singing along, at least to the songs with lyrics; for the other there just ruled a complete chaos of people enjoying themselves the utmost.
Maybe it even got a bit loud towards the end, at least it would seem so after Eicca Toppinen got up after ending Enter Sandman and said; "You wanna hear more?" Of course everyone there shouted willingness to do so, so Eicca continued; "Good, then shut up and listen!" Of course, he said it with a big smile on his lips, so I doubt that anyone was actually offended by his words.
The show was, as it usually is, ended with Grieg's Hall Of The Mountain King, but there were just so many screaming fans around that they came back a second time and gave us an extra song, which had all lighters and mobile phones in the air. The song was of course Nothing Else Matters.
After this there was a big line up by Apocalyptica, and there were bows and claps as everyone showed their appreciation for the band.
