Anvil
Wacken - 2010

We were truly moving in the great roots of the thrash genre this ungodly Wacken night. Just minutes ago Slayer had played on the Black Stage, and now it was time for Anvil to rock out on the True Metal Stage…
“Hello Germany, are you ready to rock!?”
- Steve 'Lips' Kudlow (vocals/guitar)
Steve ‘Lips’ Kudlow shouted his comments through the pickups on his guitar as Anvil hit the stage.
He also mentioned something about a dream coming true to play one of these large stages at a night such as this, and all his flattery surely hit home with many of extremely large crowd. I however thought that he mentioned it a tad too many times to take him seriously.
But then again, the man was probably just excited to be there, and who can blame him? Anyone who has seen the film about Anvil (Anvil! The Story Of Anvil by Sacha Gervasi) should know that this is not the band which has had an easy ride coming here, and in a way they have earned their right I guess, but still, tone it down a notch champ.
On the other hand, it is always nice to see a band so positive and full of energy as Anvil always are while playing, and they surely did put together an entertaining enough show.
Robb Reiner got to play a quite long drum-solo which generated a host of cheers and applause, and Lips dedicated the bands old song (their absolute first one, I seem to remember) Thumb Hang to the memory of Ronnie James Dio.
At the end of the day, Anvil did what they do best and hit home with it, but I’m still not sure who was happiest, the band or the crowd?
