Oops.
Once again I have managed to get so carried away by an Amon Amarth show that I completely forgot to bring home some notes about what transpired.
But no wonder; the Swedish Vikings very really on fire this night, and in addition to this my mindset (helped along by good mead and that wonderful warm-up concert played by Entombed) was just right for this pagan onslaught.
And let’s just be honest about it; I wasn’t the only one! The audience gave such a vibrant response to the music the whole room seemed to go in waves, and I started to wonder where exactly I parked my dragon ship last.
The setlist was of course no surprise, as we had heard it all the day before, but the show had other some add-ons, one example being the use of smoke cannons to heighten the visuals.
The true highlight of the evening though, was when Johan Hegg announced that a certain someone would be joining them for Guardians Of Asgaard; this certain someone was of course L.G. Petrov of Entombed.
I was actually headed out for the bar at the time, but try and imagine the speed with which I flew back into the concert hall when I heard this!
The song sounded great with both of them singing, and they both worked very well of each other on the stage, making this one of my most memorable snapshots from my time as Amon Amarth fan (yes, there are a few others, but this was just great).
After this, Where Silent Gods Stand Guard came on, and well, you know I just had to stay on for that one as well (and for the rest of the show for that matter)…
I may have proclaimed at their Aarhus show that it was “only” a standard show, with the standard just being abnormally high; well, if that was standard, then let me tell you this evening was way more intense, it was just a complete success on every level! Lucky me I still had one more day to go…
Setlist:
Twilight Of The Thunder God
Tattered Banners And Bloody Flags
Valkyries Ride
Asator
Varyags Of Miklagaard
Hermod’s Ride To Hel – Lokes Treachery Part 1
Guardians Of Asgaard
Where Silent Gods Stand Guard
Live For The Kill
The Fate Of Norns
Death In Fire
Runes To My Memory
Victorious March
Cry Of The Black Birds
The Pursuit Of Vikings
