Amon Amarth

Once again it was time for a visit from the Swedish Vikings of death metal to visit Copenhagen; Amon Amarth.
Last time they were here supporting Dimmu Borgir, and at that show they had blown all competition out of the water but would they be able to put on the same kind of show again?
Let me put it like this; this time they blew their old show out of the water!

Amon Amarth were in the best of moods as they took the stage, and so was the assembled audience before them.
They started out with their now familiar intro, and then quickly went into the pounding classic Death In Fire which set the mood right from the get-go. The set was built on their fast uncompromising songs which all deserve a place in any setlist, and we also saw the addition of two songs from their latest album Twilight Of The Thunder God; The title song and Free Will Sacrifice.
Sadly, as I have mentioned before, the sound quality left A LOT to desire; the voice came out good, but the music was horribly muddy and all those great melodic parts which make Amon Amarth stand out compared to other bands in the same genre were completely lost to us. At least the lights had come to life compared to when Psy-Code had played before them.

And here we naturally come to the biggest complaint about the show; the length of it, or rather, the lack of length.
In both the German shows before this one and the Swedish shows after Amon Amarth was the third band of the evening and had almost double time to play in, but for some reason this was not the case here, and the concert was over after a meagre 30 minutes. Whoever was behind this decision should immediately be taken out back and shot!
Another minus was definitely that Amon Amarth themselves had left Guardians Of Asgaard out of the set. After all, this is the best song of the new album; yes, even ranking in as one of the best Amon Amarth songs of all time. In my opinion.

Still, the audience was ecstatic and loved all the got, and Johan Hegg and friends were happy to give all they had to entertain us. Hopefully, next time they come around it will be with their own headlining tour. It is the least we can ask for after this.
