All Ends

Interesting. This is the first time I've ever seen another band warm up for Apocalyptica. And doing so is the Swedish band All Ends.

They go on stage to the sound of a very grand synth-recorded intro, and the first thing to hit me is the setup with two female vocalists. This could be interesting, although coming only for the main band I am not yet overly excited. Sadly, this feeling stays with me for their whole show, and it seems the rest of the audience agrees with me. Although efforts are made by the band, who seem to be in a very good mood this evening, to make a connection, they just can't get the crowd going. And the room isn't even half full...

To begin with, they are also dealing with a rather bad sound, in which the song is almost completely lost. This, however, is fixed during the first couple of songs, and for the rest of the show they have a very good, and more than anything, a very heavy sound. Although, I must say, having the two singers proves to be a bit of a disappointment. Not that they don't know how to sing, it just doesn't really do anything special for the music, and more importantly they both sing in the exact same style and key, so the contrast I was hoping for is completely absent.

I would categorise the style of music as the same as heard from Within Temptation or Lacuna Coil, without anything new or something to call their own. In my opinion they will need to distinguish themselves a lot more to be able to survive in the future, but who knows? I could be wrong...
