Agathodaimon

Brutal Assault - 2009

Agathodaimon from Germany was the first band we saw on the last day of the festival, and as they were playing at 11 a.m., it was no wonder that they had not attracted the largest crowd in the world. It was easy to see on the assembled people that two days of heavy music, heavy sunshine and heavy drinking were leaving heavy marks on the crowd. Apart from a few headbangers in the front, most took in the black / gothic metal served up with calm interest.

Not that the band seemed bothered, they did what they could, and seemed to enjoy their time on the stage. Agreed, had it not been for the time, this was probably the perfect setting for a band such as this, counting both surroundings and crowd.
Singer Ashtrael felt very charismatic as he did what he could to wake people up, and as he and the rest of the band banged away through their 30 minute set, more and more people could be seen arriving in the crowd.

Not really being my thing, I was not gripped as well by this show as I would have liked to be by the first band of the day; Lunah (Lauridsen, our photographer) did say she liked it a lot though, so it was probably just a matter of personal taste…
